Magician of the Mind?
What exactly is one? And why on earth would you have one at your event?
We have all seen the standard class of magician who saws people in half, finds your card and steals your watch. It's been on TV for centuries now. This is something called sleight of hand magic where the skill of the magician is in his ability to misdirect you and use skill to trick you.
A magician of the mind, mind reader or psychological magician is very different. His skills are in his ability to influence, persuade and predict your behaviour. His skills might include body language reading, psychology, NLP (neuro linguistic programming) and memory skills.
The effect of a mind magician's performances is in the mind of every member of the audience. And that is just one of the reasons it has become so popular in recent years. If every one of the guests at an event or party are personally involved in the entertainment they will enjoy it a lot more.
Another reason it is more popular is because we are naturally curious as to what other people are thinking and what we are giving away ourselves. We like to think of our thoughts and choices being fair and safe - but when a highly skilled mind magician is on the cards then your world really is tipped upside down.
Of course a massive debt for the popularity of psychological mind magic is owed to the incredible TV performer Derren Brown, who has made this ancient yet somewhat underground form of entertainment so popular.
