Kennedy: Psychological Magician and Mind Reader from Newcastle

At the age of 7, Kennedy brought his mother to tears as he described the living room of a cottage she had lived in 12 years before. He described the wall paper, the furniture and even picked up on the way his mother was feeling at the time.

When he was about eleven years old, Kennedy lived with his parents in a small terraced house in Cramlington, Northumberland (just north of Newcastle Upon Tyne). He was the kind of child who kept himself to himself. He was what they call an observer. Instead of being involved he would prefer to watch what other people did. During playtime at school he would sit on a bench and watch the others play. When invited to join in he would, although he’d rather observe. So it seems like he has always had an interest in what people do and how they do it. Perhaps more interested in other people than himself.

Obsessed with Observing

When he was fifteen a major breakthrough began. Fifteen years old, Kennedy became obsessed with this idea that he could tell information about people that he could not possibly know. He was fascinated by the world of the paranormal, the unexplained and even the world of the psychic.

His Aunt from Corby, just north of London had just dropped her cases off and was sitting having a glass of Bacardi and Coke, that was her tipple. He asked her a strange question and this question unknown to Kennedy or anyone else, was about to change everything, it would shape his career and in fact - the rest of his life.

“Aunty, do you have a letter at home, a letter you have never shown to anyone else, you have folded it in quarters and have it inside of an old book, its an old book you have never read.”

Valerie’s mouth dropped open. She put her glass down on the table, sat back in her chair and stared. But Kennedy wasn’t finished.

Incredible 11 year-old reads minds

In a leap of faith he decided to ask her “why don’t you know who wrote the letter?” This was astounding, Kennedy’s mother, who was also in the room, hadn’t a clue what he was talking about. Kennedy himself didn’t know what he was talking about.

Valerie took off her glasses and wiped her eyes which had filled with tears. She conceded that she had this letter, exactly as he had described it. The letter was signed, “George”. She didn’t know who it had come from since her brother and late husband shared the same name. This is something she had kept to herself for many years.

Kennedy was one of those people who liked to watch, observe and most of all liked to ask “why”, he was a very inquisitive kid. This has carried on through his life, even now he asks why this and why that.

Psychics, Mystics, Magicians and Mindreaders

So not satisfied that he just “knew” these things, he did not like the idea that he just knew about the floral wallpaper that his mother hated so much, or the details of this secret letter belonging to his Aunt. He wanted to know why he was able to do this stuff. That is when his studies began.

He began looking at the world of psychics, their techniques and how they are able to do seemingly conduct messages from beyond the grave. Another interest was magicians and what they did, was it related to the things psychics do? Kennedy’s thinking was that psychics do incredible things, magicians do incredible things and I do incredible things, so maybe they are all related or at least have something in common.

He knew it was something to do with the mind, so he turned to psychology, he also looked at magic in particular a genre of magic called Mentalism. Made famous recently by Derren Brown on TV as Psychological Magic. His intention was to see how each of these areas worked and maybe how they cross-over in to something really incredible.

Of course Kennedy is obsessed with this stuff so is constantly researching and being involved in many many projects to do with the paranormal and the unexplained. He is now a respected member of the prestigious *Newcastle Magic Circle. Through all of this he is adamant that what he does is absolutely natural and is not at all involved with any of the dark arts…so what is it?
