This week’s event pro insight comes all the way across the pond from California, USA. Mark Paaluhi gives us the lowdown on some pretty unique beach style events that he’s been running all around the globe. This is pretty unique event idea as you’ll read:
I specialize in beach events. I prefer to call them beach lifestyle events. Surfing, Stand up paddle, Beach volleyball, fitness (yoga or physical), beach soccer, bikini contest, music, & live music.
I do various types, Entertainment, Professional, public events, team building events for corporate and vacation packages (primarily with Fiji Airways)
Fun in the Sun! Thats the goal. The opportunity for people to enjoy the beach lifestyle on the beach, lake shore and even at inland parking lots where we bring in the sand! Typically we have beach volleyball, Stand up Paddle and Music (DJ, live or both)
The most “out there” and “lavish” at times event would be my PUMA Laird SUP “Experience” Tour. We traveled around the world for 10 months hosting events in 10 countries during the Volvo Ocean sailing Race. It was challenging having to work in various countries dealing with religion, language barriers, foreign laws etc. Then also dealing with professional athletes, officials and celebrities.
Weather can be tough. Typically, my events are held during spring and summer time. This helps to eliminate to cooler weather, but rain can be an issue. Most of the time we have tents set up. These can be used for shade or cover. With the hope that the rain will pass by soon. Wind is tough. You have to make sure you secure everything! Otherwise you could end up with a flying object that could be dangerous.
Keeping track of updated weather reports help to get a good idea if its going to be necessary to cancel events or postpone for a later start times.
I would definitely recommend to know your potential participants and have a good DJ or band play. In other words music is key! Music can help you create the vibe you want.
Mark Paaluhi is the founder of Day At The Beach Events and is based on the beautiful Hermosa Beach in California.
