The rumours haven’t taken long to surface, and even Derren himself has had to defend himself not only with the usual tweet, but by making a video to prove that the man used in his Apocalipse was not an actor.
In my opinion, and I am not at all privy to any insider information and am not a friend or associate of Derren’s, there is no way an actor could be used here.
If an actor were used then the reactions would be disingenuous and would not emote the viewer the way it so obviously has.
In the work that mind readers, mentalists and even magicians do we are always fighting one thing – “that guy is an actor”.
That is why when we select people we often do so at random using paper balls, cuddly toys, frizees etc.
What we all create is impossible, stunning ‘theatre’ and television and often what we do looks so impossible, so perfect that when looking for a simple explanation, the easiest for anyone to go to is that we must pay the people we involve.
When in reality paying an actor for this piece of TV in the case of Apocalipse would be more expensive and have less effect than just using a regular person. It’s actually easier to just use a normal guy.
In my opinion, the only thing faked in Apocalipse is as I mentioned in my previous post, the cut aways where Derren is apparently directing the actors. Which I think is a theatrical choice to ensure us viewers remember the man behind the ‘magic’.
What do you think?
